A lot of people ask me how to be a writer. The answer is obvious…
A better question to ask would be ‘how do you become a good writer?‘
1) You start writing a lot – You can’t be a writer if you never write. Writing is free. The only barrier to entry is your willingness to actually do the work.
2) You write like you talk and use words that people understand – The best writing reads like a conversation, not like a 1st century epic. A lot of would-be writers try to sound smart by using uncommon words. It doesn’t make them look smart, it makes them look try-hard and it makes their writing impossible to read.
3) You ruthlessly trim – A big mistake that new writers make is never editing or trimming their work. Nobody writes out a perfect first draft. A perfect piece of work needs editing and trimming.

How to Be a Writer of Beauty – “Great writing is passion. Plain and simple. Passion is what makes your words leap off the page and engage the reader. The technical skills have got to be there, never think you can write like a dimwit and be great, but technicality is second to passion and fire.”
So You Want to Be a Professional Artist – “Recently I found some quiet time to sit, relax and reflect. I went to the local shopping mall to use the banking facilities and pick up some money that was owed to me. When I was finished I figured I’d go to a nice little coffee shop, drink some coffee, listen to some tunes, relax and let some ideas flow. I found myself in this quiet coffee shop full of Japanese. I didn’t have a computer with me, so I grabbed a pen and a sheet of paper and got to work (artists are always “on”).”
So You Want to Be a Professional Blogger Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 – “Wow, can you show me how to do that?” That is the question I always get when I try and explain to people what it is I do for a living. I always tell them the same thing, no, but today I am going to share with you how you can become a professional blogger. In part one of this three part series I am going to show you the mindset and the creativity it takes to become a professional blogger. Note: When I say professional blogger I mean that you make money from your blog. I don’t mean you have a loyal following, I don’t mean you write controversial pieces, I don’t mean you have a real witty sense of humor, I mean you make green dollars and red cents.
