I’m a face shaver. I’m not a beard guy. I take my shaving very seriously.
So what I’m about to tell you pains me greatly…
For years I was a champion of the safety razor.
I thought the safety razor was the end-all, be-all of shaving.
After-all, a straight razor is what Grandpa would have used.
I relied on that logic until I realized it isn’t 1960 anymore. We have new and better technology.
So I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I was wrong, the safety razor is not the best shaving device.
The best shaving device is….
…the cheap disposable razors you can pick up at the gas station.
Yes, it’s true and hear me out.
I used a safety razor for years. I always got a close shave using them.
Too close of a shave, in fact, because I cut my face about 98% of the time I shaved with a safety razor.
Not only did I cut my face but I’ve cut my lip, my nose and even my ear.
Shaving with a safety razor takes a long time because you have to be careful not to cut yourself. So much for “safety”.
But I don’t like shaving slow, I like shaving fast and moving on with my day.
Let’s go back in time about four years….
I was visiting Thailand and the airport security wouldn’t allow me to bring in my safety razor, so I ended up purchasing a cheap disposable razor…
And I had the best shave of my life.
I was astounded at how quick, easy and painless it was. I didn’t cut myself a single time and I’d had a phenomenal shave.
“Woops”, I thought. I’ve been talking up the safety razor for so long this will make me look foolish.
So I buried the evidence and continued using the safety razor for years.
It was when I nearly cut my ear off with the safety razor that I thought “enough is enough!”.
Ever since then I have been using the cheap disposable razors you pick up at gas stations.
Not only have I been using them, I wouldn’t consider using anything else.
Sometimes the best inventions are so good they don’t need to be improved upon.
I have also developed a 5-part system for getting a phenomenal shave every single time.
1) Shave your face with an electric razor first
I’m not quite sure why, but this makes it easier to shave your face with a razor and get a closer shave.
(The Wohl Lithium Ion all-in-one trimmer works like a charm).
2) Use a badger hair brush and use quality shaving cream
I like to shave in the shower, saves time and it’s easy to clean off the extra shaving cream.
(I’ve been using the Gillette Blue 2 cheap-o razors.)
4) Use a quality after-shave
5) Throw away your disposable razor after each shave
You can only use these razors one time before they get dull and cut up your face. Invest in a whole box of them if you need to.
Now you know how to get the perfect shave every time.
Enjoy the best damn shave of your life and have a nice day.
Until next time.
